Midwife Care
A nurse-midwife is a registered nurse extra training in an accredited midwifery program to become board certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Nurse-midwives can provide a full range of primary health care services for women, including:
- Gynecological care
- Preconception counseling
- Birth control treatment
- Infection treatment
- Natural birth delivery
- Water birth delivery
- Planned epidural treatment
An acceptable alternative to an OB/GYN, a nurse-midwife is able to provide more of a hands-on approach to well-women and pregnancy care. A nurse-midwife spends quality time with her patients to understand their unique healthcare needs. For pregnancy care, a nurse-midwife provides physical and emotional support, education and training, such as breathing and relaxation techniques, to promote a safe and healthy delivery experience.
