Accommodations

Northwestern Memorial Hospital constantly strives to provide the very best care to our patients in a healing environment that offers comfort and inspires clinical innovation. Our two million square-foot healthcare facility houses nearly 500 private inpatient rooms and 100 private intensive care rooms. Northwestern Memorial Hospital has become a model facility for healthcare providers, with hundreds of tour groups from both the United States and abroad visiting annually.

Patient Rooms
All of our patient rooms are private with furnishings and decorations to give a warm and comfortable feel. Room features include:

Comfort

  • Windows that fill up almost an entire wall to allow the sunlight in and low enough for patients to see out while lying in bed
  • Window seats that convert to a twin bed for family members to stay overnight
  • Shelves next to the window seat for cards and flowers
  • Separate lighting to allow staff members to work in the rooms without disturbing patients
  • A television positioned for optimal visibility

Safety

  • Safety lighting along the floor of each patient room as well as the halls
  • Private climate control
  • Sinks in each patient room for immediate hand washing
  • Shower seats in each bathroom

Accessibility

  • Bathroom doors are wider than normal for wheelchairs, walkers and nurse assistance
  • The spacious rooms allow a 360 degree turn in a wheelchair or walker possible

Communication

  • Marker boards in each room for patients/families to leave information/questions for rounding physicians and their caregivers
  • A bulletin board type strip on the wall to hang cards

Patient Accommodations after Surgery
The Division of Transplantation has teamed up with the Residence Inn by Marriott to provide patients and their caregivers a place to stay should they live a distance from the hospital. The Residence Inn is located approximately six blocks from Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 201 East Walton Place. The suite has one queen sized bed as well as one pull-out sleeper sofa and a fully-equipped kitchen with full-size appliances.

Suite availability is limited and priority is given to newly transplanted patients and donors as they require frequent follow-up visits to the Transplant Clinic. The suite is offered free of charge. Patients who cannot be accommodated at the Residence Inn can receive discounted lodging through the hospital.

The Residence Inn offers free shuttle service to and from the hospital. Residence Inn's shuttle service is not wheelchair equipped. If wheelchair assistance is needed, it can be provided by Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Mini-van Health Express service.
