Patients come to have their transplant at Northwestern Memorial for many reasons, one of which is the world class transplant research program. Northwestern Memorial physicians are participating in a National Institutes of Health (NIH) consortium studying islet cell transplants for patients for whom optimization of insulin therapy has failed. The research team is also involved in several clinical research trials to evaluate new anti-rejection medicines, to refine prednisone-free pancreas transplant techniques.
